The One Off is a multi-discipline agency, specialising in Advertising, Branding, Digital, Social Media, Interior Design and Architecture. Proudly independent, with offices in the UK and India, they create unforgettable brand experiences that captivate audiences and transform brands.
Their integrated approach creates compelling stories that engage customers across media. The impact of ideas compounds across touchpoints, delivering better commercial results.
We have collaborated closely with The One Off, supporting their wayfinding contract with Sports Direct. This re-branding project is an attempt to unify the retailer’s identity and keep up with trends in the sports industry. Sports Direct’s third store in the prominent Manchester Arndale shopping centre is an important stepping stone as the retailer is positioning themselves at becoming the UK’s premium & luxury sportsware retailer.
The new five-floor Sports Direct store includes high street fashion brands, an e-sports centre and a bra-fitting studio. The new premises, which is 50,000 sq ft, is the company’s third UK ‘flagship store’, after openings in London and Birmingham. Dedicated areas have been set out for football, running — as well as specialist sports, plus menswear, womenswear, and kids wear.
Their brief was to design and manufacture eco-friendly, lightweight POS (Point of Sale) decorations which would be used to stage branded retail sections of the store.
Working closely with the Nike branding team, we designed and produced a light-weight Nike branded kettlebell which was 3D printed in three-sections using SolidWorks 3D CAD software. The design was broken down into three sections with two things in mind, quality and time saving.
The logo portion of the part must be designed for manufacture without support structures, maintaining clean surfaces while strictly adhering to the brand’s guidelines. The underside of the handle featured overhangs exceeding 45 degrees. To minimise the need for support structures and reduce post-processing time, it was split and rotated 180 degrees before printing.
Prioritising sustainability, we selected Filamentive recycled PLA as our preferred material. Acknowledging the environmental challenges in this sector, it was crucial that the parts be made from recycled materials. Filamentive PLA contains 87% recycled content, making it one of our go-to materials when minimising environmental impact is a top priority.
After the parts were 3D printed, our skilled technical team assembled them and prepared them for painting through our trusted supply chain. The parts were pre-treated with Repliflow smoothing resin and finished with a matte black coat using a 2K paint system.
