The One Off is a multi-discipline agency, specialising in Advertising, Branding, Digital, Social Media, Interior Design and Architecture.

The One Off secured a prestigious contract to help Sports Direct launch their third flagship store in the Arndale Centre, Manchester. This project is important to Sports Direct as they look to rebrand their company image and become the UK’s premium & luxury sportswear retailer.

The new five-floor Sports Direct store  includes high street fashion brands, an e-sports centre and a bra-fitting studio. The new premises, which is 50,000 sq ft big, is the company’s third UK ‘flagship store’, after openings in London and Birmingham. Dedicated areas have been set out for football, running — as well as specialist sports, plus menswear, womenswear, and kidswear.

The Brief

SGD 3D were tasked with assisting The One Off with designing and manufacturing lightweight kettlebells as part of the stores decorative features. Working closely with the Nike team, we designed a modular 3D printed kettlebell using SolidWorks 3D CAD software with the intent of constructing the final design out of sections requiring minimum support structures on any visible surfaces.

With sustainability in mind, we suggested to our customer to produce these parts in Filamentive recycled PLA. We recognised that sustainability is an issue in this sector and it was imperative that these parts were constructed of recycled materials. Filamentive PLA contains 87% recycled content, and is one of our go to materials when sustainability is a key factor.

Once parts were printed, they were joined by our experienced technical team and prepared for painting by our trusted supply chain. Parts were pre-treated with Repliflow smoothing resin and painted in a matte Black colour.
